C. Poetry Committee
The role of the Poetry Committee has been to help us select the best poem from the huge collection of poems gathered over the last four years of AiA's programs around the world. The selected poem from each country will be featured in AiA's World Art Book which will be published in 2009. The poem had to adequately portray the country it was representing, and complement the artwork which would accompany it. It was very hard to choose 'the right' poem, so it was absolutely necessary to build a team of Permanent Poetry Advisers. Guidance from local people where the poems came from was also of utmost importance in the selection process.
The Fundacion Vicente Huidobro, in charge of promoting the work of the Chilean artist Vicente Huidobro has kindly given us support in the field of poetry, guiding us with their very valuable and extensive expertise in children’s poetry The grandson of the poet Vicente Huidobro is also a member of our Board of Advisers.
Barbara Morana, fascinated by European and Latin American poetry, is graduated in Paris in Art History seven years ago. For several years she has worked for the Ministry of Culture in Chile, and is today in charge of the organization of cultural programs at the Union Latina in Santiago, which promotes Latin American culture all over the world and works closely with the UNESCO.
She was responsible for bringing a collection of sculptures by Rodin to Santiago in April 2005 – one of the biggest cultural events in Chilearn history.
Fiona Capuano was born in Istanbul and raised in Brooklyn yeshivas. After a New York University inspired Clinical Psychology and Creative Writing obsessions, she pursued an eclectic career in the world of poetry. Today, Fiona is a surrealist poet, painter and photographer. Writing in English, Turkish, French, Hebrew and Spanish, she performs her witty words in venues around New York and Brooklyn.
