Art in New York!
Children’s educational art organization, Art in All of Us, expands presence in New York.
NEW YORK, NY- February 18th, 2008- Art in All of Us (AiA), a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization which works to promote artistic communication among children around the globe, is expanding its presence in New York City. After two exhibitions in the Fall of 2007, AiA New York, is pleased to announce the dissemination of its curriculum in local schools, after school programs, and recreation centers. The 20- person U.S. volunteer team is working relentlessly to expand AiA’s three founding programs- The Pen Pal Program, the World Awareness Program, and The World Art Book. The organization, based in Belgium and New York, has received formal support from UNICEF since its inception.
The future of Art in All of Us lies in the dissemination of its curriculum in more schools than AiA has been able to visit worldwide in the past 3 years. The AiA team has documented the curriculum for "train the trainer sessions", enabling more children to appreciate the content based on the universal language of Art. The program is set to increase children's tolerance of different cultures and build communication between towns, cities, and countries. The global curriculum will teach children understanding of other cultures, while presenting a wider diffusion of children's art in different schools. The New York base of Art in All of Us will launch this new curriculum in local schools across Manhattan.
Phil Micali, Art in All of Us U.S. Director and International Advisory Board member, is eager, passionate, and committed to the launch of the curriculum in local schools all over Manhattan. He says of launching the AiA program in New York City, "What better place to initiate global awareness and with what better language to do it than Art. I think children in the U.S. are going be receptive, enthusiastic, and open to the communicative initiatives we are working on."
The AiA Pen Pal and Awareness programs work by teaching children the power of communication across cultural boundaries. Local teachers and AiA volunteers use Art to connect children with others in new towns and open their eyes to the similarities and difference that bind the human race together. Now, by building the interactive version of these two programs online, AiA hopes to extend its reach to children and schools who have not been visited. They are working with already existing school networks such as iEarn to extend their local and global partnerships and further the influence of AiA initiatives. Art in All of Us has already visited in over 10,000 children in 220 schools in 155 countries!
The World Art Book, to be published in early 2009, is a captivating documentation of the work Art in All of Us has accomplished to date. Including eye opening photographs which capture the charisma and charm of these young, creative minds, and copies of select drawings and poetry done by the children in schools around the globe. Once all 192 UN listed countries have been visited, Art in All of us will publish the book in 2009. To further promote artistic education in schools, the proceeds from the sales of this book will contribute to the initiatives of Art in All of Us.
Over 110 people volunteer to support the initiatives of AiA. Volunteers have generously devoted their time to build and expand AiA. All donations are gladly accepted. For more information on our mission, recent exhibitions, or to make a donation please visit our website at www.artinallofus.org.
