AiA organize with SOS Children Villages in Banda Aceh, Indonesia a solidarity chain for Haiti children.
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, 10th July, 2010 – AiA resumed its AiA Awareness program in South-East Asia with several schools visits in Malaysia and Indonesia. In both countries, AiA prepared set up an Art Pen Pal solidarity chain for children in Haiti. By end of the year a big exhibition with children artworks from the 6 continents will be organized in Port au Prince.
In our last week of visit, AiA was honored to be invited for SOS Children Village anniversary in Banda Aceh. Anthony Asael, founder of Art in All of Us organized some Awareness Workshops with the children of the village as well as creative photography teaching with the adolescents of SOS Youth Facility.
Asael explains: "It is always a great satisfaction to work with SOS Children Villages. I am always stunned by their fabulous work with the children all over the world. This region has been the most devastated by the Tsunami end 2004. Over 55% of the 260,000 inhabitants have been killed. Today, the whole city has been reconstructed and simple daily life took over again. However sad memories remain, and Art is used constantly to give the children an opportunity to express themselves. I am happy to see how it has worked effectively in this region. AiA is proud to extend this work with its Awareness programs in Aceh province."
The AiA Awareness workshops introduce drawing, poetry, and photography to schools while promoting multicultural exchanges through interactive art activities. We worked with children between the ages of 8-12 guiding, teaching, and helping them understand different cultures by exploring their differences and similarities. In playing games, taking photographs, and of course creating priceless pieces of art, we try to immerse the children in the fascinating world of culture and communication.
Pak Ano, director of the SOS Village in Banda Aceh says "it was a great honour that AiA attends our 61st anniversary organising the workshops with the children. They stimulated the children creativity and curiosity of the world." He concluded "We are also happy to participate in a new Pen Pal Program with Haiti this autumn".
